Did you know most people take better care of their cars than their own teeth? Do you know anyone whose car has lasted their lifetime? Your teeth can and should. There is really no excuse in this day and age for people to lose their teeth. Your teeth were meant to last a lifetime – regular checkups and cleanings are the first step towards achieving that goal.
Composite tooth colored fillings are made of a resin filled with microscopic porcelain particles. The strength of current composites is similar to the strength of silver mercury fillings, but look much more natural and cause less tooth fracture. The enormous advantage of composite fillings is that they are bonded to the teeth during placement. For small to moderate sized cavities, Dr. Cauchon uses composite fillings exclusively due to their beauty and strength. Larger cavities require a porcelain or composite onlay to properly restore the entire shape and function of a broken or decayed tooth.
Large silver mercury fillings are not only a cosmetic problem, but they can actually encourage a tooth to fracture due to slow expansion of the filling material over time. Porcelain and porcelain composite laboratory made onlays that are aesthetically beautiful and can be bonded into very large cavities. Ask Dr. Cauchon if a porcelain onlay is the best way to restore your back teeth with large silver mercury fillings.
Recent technology has created porcelains that are much closer in strength to natural teeth than ever before. Full crowns are needed when an entire tooth has been damaged by fracture or decay. For the ultimate in aesthetics, crowns can cover an entire tooth and rebuild it with all porcelain materials bonded to the tooth. There is no ugly metal line next to the gums, so they can be placed in areas where aesthetics is important. Beauty as well as function! Long term success can be achieved with these materials when used in appropriate situations. Dr. Cauchon can recommend the best method and material to restore your damaged teeth.
New amazingly strong porcelains can actually be used in bridges to replace missing teeth. These beautiful new materials have been used successfully in thousands of cases around the world. Dr. Cauchon has placed many of these exciting new bridges. The missing teeth look very natural. He would be thrilled to evaluate your bridge to see if an all porcelain replacement is appropriate.
This procedure involves removing diseased tissue from inside the tooth and replacing it with a sterile packing. Root canals often eliminate the need to extract a tooth, thereby allowing our patients to retain their natural teeth longer.
Invisalign is the non-braces way to straighten teeth. Using advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to project tooth movement, Invisalign creates a series of clear, custom-made aligners (repositioners) that gradually move your teeth. You wear each aligner for about 2 weeks, moving to the next set, until the goals you agreed upon with your dentist are reached.
The ZOOM!® chairside whitening system is a safe, effective and fast way to brighten your teeth in a single office visit. The ZOOM! procedure is much more convenient than wearing trays or strips, making it a great choice for our busy patients.
ZOOM! is done in the office during one visit lasting 1-2 hours. At your appointment we apply a gentle, hydrogen peroxide-based whitening gel to your teeth. The gel is then exposed to a high-intensity light. After the treatment, your teeth may be up to 8 shades whiter.
Dentist-supervised whitening is one of the safest and most conservative cosmetic dental treatments available. The most common side effect is short-lived tooth sensitivity.
We also offer a take-home system, for those patients who prefer to whiten in the privacy of their own homes.
Porcelain veneers are a fantastic way to repair or enhance the appearance of front teeth. They can be used to whiten teeth, close spaces and create a great smile!. Using veneers, we can even perform virtual "instant orthodontics" to straighten crooked teeth and give you the bright smile you always wanted.
Reduce or eliminate spaces between the teeth (diastemas)
Repair broken or chipped teeth
Whiten dark, yellow, permanently stained or discolored teeth
Correct misshapen or crooked teeth
Dental bonding, dental crowns and veneers are all cosmetic dentistry procedures that can boost your smile from average to brilliant. Bonding, however, is a less expensive, less complicated alternative to a dental crown or porcelain veneers. Dr Cauchon feels that dental bonding is best suited for:
Small cosmetic changes
Temporary corrections of cosmetic defects
Teeth with little bite pressure (especially front teeth)
Another benefit of dental bonding is the time it can save you. Unlike veneers and dental crowns, which are custom-made in an off-site laboratory and require multiple visits to complete, a dental bonding procedure is performed in our office and generally takes just one visit!
Implant dentistry is a conservative way to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth. Implants are often titanium cylinders placed into the bone to take the place of a tooth root or roots. Crowns are then fabricated to replace the actual tooth structure.
Dental implants can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
Replacing a missing tooth
Anchoring dental bridges
Replacing several missing teeth
Did you know more people lose their teeth due to gum disease than anything else? Gum disease is preventable with good dentistry and good oral hygiene, in otherwise healthy individuals. We'll show you how to take care of your mouth after we've eliminated all the causative factors. Our treatments are advanced and conservative. Serious periodontal disease may require a specialist so don't wait until it's too late.
While dentures can help restore self-confidence and make chewing more comfortable, they are also often the source of embarrassing slips and noises. Although partial dentures provide effective replacements for missing teeth, they require constant maintenance and can be unaesthetic.
Implant overdentures offer all the benefits of traditional dentures with added security, comfort and ease. Your dentures are held in place by several implants that are placed into the bone and gums for extra support that allow you to chew food better and speak more clearly. Implant overdentures also eliminate the need for messy creams and adhesives. Dr. Cauchon is experienced and educated in performing this simple and safe procedure.
Neuromuscular dentistry makes sure that the jaw joint, (the temporomandibular joint), is in correct alignment; relieving the symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ). TMJ causes symptoms that can range from ringing in the ears to arm and neck pain to migraines and headaches.
The most common cause of TMJ is malocclusion. Malocclusion is a term used to describe a person's bite when their teeth don't come together properly. When the bite is misaligned like this, the muscles around the temporomandibular joint strain just to rest the jaw.
Dr. Cauchon is an experienced neuromuscular dentist. If you are suffering from TMJ symptoms, he can develop a treatment for you that will provide relief and prevent future problems.
